How To Submit

  1. First, you must be registered in order to submit a story to 365 Tales.
  2. Once you have registered and signed in, you will be able to write a story. Stories can either be written in another text editor and copied and pasted onto the submission form, or written within the site itself. You can save and revise the story as many times as you like, but it will not be visible to others until a site moderator has published it.
  3. Give your story a brief description of a sentence or two. The description should be put at the top of the page, above the actual story. Separate it from the main body of your story with a “More” line, either by pressing the “more” button in the visual editor or by typing <!–more–> if you’re using HTML code. The description will not be counted in the word total, and should be a sentence or two describing the story, not an actual part of the narrative itself. Please italicize the description to make it distinct from the actual story. Use <em> and </em> to do this, if you’re using HTML.
  4. When your story is ready to be published, write *finished* at the end of it. Just like that: asterisk-f-i-n-i-s-h-e-d-asterisk. We search for that exact word to find the stories that are ready to be published, so spelling is important. The extra word/tag will not appear on the published story, and does not count towards the word limit.
  5. HTML tags may be used to create italics, bold text, etc. If you’re not comfortable with HTML, the format toolbar in the story editor essentially creates HTML tags for you. In either case, the HTML does not count towards the word limit.
  6. Although a link may sometimes be appropriate within the body of a story, stories which clearly exist only for purposes of “spam” will be rejected. This is at the discretion of the moderators.
  7. In keeping with the site’s theme, all stories must be of the short-short variety, also known as flash fiction or microfiction. In particular, all stories must be 365 words or less. We use the word count utility in MS Works or a similar word processor to verify this before we publish a story.
  8. We will make every effort to check for finished stories at least once a day, and certainly no less often than once a week. However, being human, we can make no guarantees.
  9. Please familiarize yourself with our submission guidelines and conditions before submitting a story. Stories which fail to meet our submission guidelines (including the all-important word count) will be rejected. At the same time, it must be understood that meeting the submission guidelines does not guarantee publication. This is up to the discretion of the moderators and the owner of the site.
