Our Quality of Life Will Be So Much Better

Is it my fault? Did I ask him to take the job? No.
But here we are, the other side of the country, kids just about settled into their new school, family, friends, all I’d gained at work, left behind. And then…
But I’m doing this for both of us, he says, a once in a lifetime opportunity, blah, blah, and that’s what people do in a marriage–they support each other. And my favourite: our quality of life will be so much better.
So he moves us to The Village Where Time Stood Still. No doctor, no dentist, one bus a day. Nearest school, ten miles. And he knows I can’t drive! Plus, since the accident, no way am I learning.
This isn’t a good place to drive anyway. Too many narrow roads. Not that he needs reminding of that.
From the neck down, yes.
I can’t do everything, I need help.
I just wish he’d stop complaining.

Maybe I’m dense, but I’m not getting this. Everything makes sense until the line, “From the neck down, yes.” Then, I’m completely lost.

Maybe if the line read “He’s paralysed, yes. From the neck down.”?
